It’s Thursday, October 8th. Hilton hired Uber's top engineer days after Meta's AI agent got stuck trying to pull a room rate off Hilton.com. Hyatt wants to know where "hours saved" shows up on a P&L, and only 24% of hotel leaders say AI has paid for itself. The FTC is circling Priceline over ads dressed up as hotel websites, with a possible $500M tab. Mews says its AI can answer 80% of guest questions, Booking now builds agents in hours, Expedia is cutting 58 jobs in Seattle, and the smallest rental managers are out-adopting the biggest. Somewhere in all this, your front desk is still explaining a fee it never charged.

🎙️ Shout-out to Dan Fernandez, VP of Digital Marketing at Concord Hospitality, who joined me on the podcast to break down how Concord is piloting AI across 150+ hotels - from voice agents and GEO to a disciplined 90-day testing model for figuring out what’s actually worth scaling.

And shout-out to The Hospitality Show Miami for bringing together operators like Dan who are actually testing this stuff in the field. Looking to exhibit or attend? Let me know and they gave me some exclusive perks for Hotel Tech Insiders like you.

TOGETHER WITH CENDYN

Still trying to close the year strong? Corporate holiday parties are one of the last major opportunities for hotels to fill need periods, capture late-booking group business, and build pipeline for 2027.

  • ✅ Find High-Intent Accounts: Use Knowland sales intelligence to identify companies most likely to book based on past behaviors and preferences.

  • ✅ Capture Short-Window Demand: With many groups confirming just 1–3 months out, sales teams can act quickly on opportunities competitors may miss.

  • ✅ Build Long-Term Business: Turn December events into January kickoffs, mid-year meetings, and repeat corporate business with smarter targeting.

Knowland helps hotel sales teams connect the dots between seasonal demand and year-round revenue opportunities—so holiday parties can become more than a one-time booking.

GOING DEEPER

The FTC Is Coming for Fake Hotel Websites

Some guests who think they booked direct did not. The FTC is preparing action against Priceline owner Booking Holdings over ads that look like a hotel's own site, then send travelers to a third party that adds charges, two sources told Reuters. The affiliate, Guest Reservations, has drawn more than 1,000 Better Business Bureau complaints, and one source put potential penalties above $500 million. AAHOA says owners and staff field the fallout... for fees they never charged. Read More →

Only 24% of Hotel Leaders Say AI Has Paid for Itself

Everyone knows what the AI bill is. A Destination AI survey of 107 hotel company leaders found 90% say AI saves time on routine tasks, but only 24% say the investment has paid for itself, and none plan to spend less next year. Hyatt's Pat Nestor asked where "hours saved" lives on a P&L. Marriott and Cloudbeds say job cuts aren't the goal... which gets awkward when labor is over 40% of a hotel's costs. Read More →

Booking.com Now Builds AI Agents in Hours

Booking.com described AgentHub, an internal platform that lets writers, product managers and developers deploy AI agents "in a matter of hours." One of the first answers travelers' property questions by pulling from Booking's own systems and working out distances to landmarks and transit. Multi-agent collaboration, long-term memory and personalization are next. The source is Booking's own blog, so there are no numbers yet... but your biggest distributor just made shipping agents a same-day job. Read More →

KeyData: Small STRs are more AI Savvy than Enterprise Operators

KeyData surveyed 392 U.S. property managers and found 89% use AI for something, led by guest messaging at 50%. Managers with 29 units or fewer adopt it most, while operators with 500-plus units adopt it least. The twist is distribution. Last year more managers planned to cut OTA reliance than add to it. For 2027, 25% plan to lean in and 18% plan to pull back... direct booking had a nice run as a slogan. Read More →
