It’s Thursday, October 29th. Meta wants a percent of every booking its Muse agent makes. Agoda signed up anyway. Apaleo and Roommaster put the PMS inside ChatGPT, and the hotel pays for the AI. Wyndham's AI voice agent books 15% above the published rate. Brussels opened a probe into Booking.com scams. Scammers are quoting guests their real stay dates after a PMS breach. Hilton hired its CTO from Uber. BWH is now WorldHotels. Extended stay, meanwhile, is 40% of everything being built.
TOGETHER WITH GOURMET MARKETING
Can a guest get from your homepage to a confirmed booking in under 60 seconds? Time it on a phone, on mobile data. If they can't, every ad dollar buys more abandoned bookings.
The Direct Booking Playbook from Gourmet Marketing lays out eight fundamentals for independent hotels, and a 90-day plan that puts them in the order that costs least.
✅ 10 checks before you spend a cent: a site that loads in under 3 seconds, a direct rate no higher than three OTAs on three dates, and one named owner for marketing.
✅ The 90-day order: fix the leaks, the booking path, reviews and the guest list first, and buy traffic only in days 76 to 90.
✅ Five numbers, every month: direct share, direct acquisition cost against OTA cost, site conversion, repeat rate and review recency.
GOING DEEPER
Meta Wants a Cut of Every Muse Hotel Booking
Meta now wants paying for Muse. On Meta's October 21 call, Mark Zuckerberg named travel one of Muse's top use cases and floated taking "a percent of the value" the agent helps create. More than 10 million people set up Muse in about six weeks, Meta says, with average purchases above $200. On October 28 Booking Holdings' Agoda went live inside Muse in Singapore and Japan... if Meta takes a fee, the hotel pays twice for one guest.
EU Probes Booking.com Scams, Fines Up to 6%
Brussels wants to know who sent the fake payment request. The European Commission opened a formal Digital Services Act investigation into Booking.com on October 21, covering fake listings, phishing that exploits reservation and guest data shared with hotels, and boosted listings, bought with higher commission, that may not be labeled as ads. Reported scams on Booking.com rose 500% from 2022 to 2024. Fines can reach 6% of global turnover... the paid boost may soon come with an "ad" label.
PMS Breach Feeds Scammers Guest Data
The phishing message now knows the guest's dates. This week guests of Australian operators BIG4, Reflections Holidays, G'day Parks and Summerstar received WhatsApp, SMS and email messages quoting real names and stay dates, claiming failed payments and asking for card details. The common link is RMS Cloud, whose booking system serves more than 6,000 hotels, parks and serviced apartments. RMS says no card data was exposed and is reissuing partner credentials... the scam now reads like the confirmation email.
Wyndham's AI Voice Sells 15% Above Rate
Wyndham's busiest new salesperson is a phone line. CEO Geoff Ballotti says its AI voice agent runs in more than 1,700 hotels, has answered over 3 million calls this year, books at an average 15% above the published rate and lifted the direct share by more than 5 points. Wyndham feeds rates to Meta's Muse, OpenAI's Dots and Instinct. Morgan Stanley still models smaller OTA savings for Wyndham than Marriott or Hilton... the robot upsells, the analyst stays unsold.
Apaleo, Roommaster Put the PMS in ChatGPT
Hotel software is getting AI, and the hotel pays for the model. Apaleo's connector opens reservations, folios, guest profiles, live rates and ADR to ChatGPT and Claude at no charge, with "LLM costs may apply." Hotel WD gives staff about 90 commands, including bulk rate changes and cancellations behind an approval step, and Roommaster answers arrivals and open-folio questions. On personal ChatGPT plans, one thumbs-up can let OpenAI use the whole conversation... read the terms before the folio goes in.

AI TOOL OF THE WEEK
Build your own hotel AI agents from templates
Canary's Hospitality AI Agent Studio lets hotel teams build and deploy their own AI agents, starting from Front Desk, Concierge and Central Reservations templates or from scratch. Agents connect to the rest of Canary's system and can run at one property or above property, for guests, staff, owners and partners.
🪄 Teams set each agent to their own brand standards and workflows; Canary says its AI already handles millions of guest touchpoints for customers including Marriott, Wyndham, Choice and IHG.

5 Ways to Boost Holiday Season NOI
Wyndham's voice agent books 15% above the published rate. Only 10% of hotels let AI set the price. Five decisions close most of that gap.
1️⃣ Reprice daily from pickup. Set a floor and a ceiling, then let PriceLabs move the rate on pace and comp set.
2️⃣ Forecast before you discount. Revolution Plus flags soft dates weeks out, so promos land on the nights that need them.
3️⃣ Push one rate to every channel. SiteMinder sends each change to every OTA at once, so no channel undercuts direct.
4️⃣ Win the metasearch click. Triptease puts the direct rate beside the OTA price on Google, where guests compare.
5️⃣ Sell the upgrade before check-in. Canary texts upgrade and add-on offers ahead of arrival.
PODCAST SPOTLIGHT
Wyndham Voice AI Added 500 Basis Points
This episode is part of a series created in partnership with The Hospitality Show Miami, where Scott will be speaking next week.
Wyndham builds once and ships to thousands of franchised hotels. Scott Strickland, Wyndham's Chief Commercial Officer, says the AI voice agent tied to its central reservation system resolves about 60% of in-house guest requests without the front desk and lifted the channel's direct contribution by 500 basis points. Digital tipping runs at more than 3,000 hotels at about $10 a tip, and the Adora content engine raised social click-through up to six times... even the tip jar went digital.
