Expedia Sued Over Rate Parity and “Almost 80%” of U.S. OTA Hotel Bookings

Three consumers want a Seattle jury to look at how hotel rates get set. Their proposed class action says Expedia handles almost 80% of gross booking value between U.S. consumers and U.S. hotels, charges about 15% a booking and 25% to 30% for better placement, and ranks hotels that undercut it elsewhere lower in search. Marriott, Hilton, IHG, Wyndham, Hyatt and Best Western are named as affected. Expedia had not commented... the parity clause finally got sued, and not by a hotel. Read More →

Booking Holdings Puts $100M Behind Vayo, an AI Agent That Watches Every Reservation

Booking Holdings has a second AI startup, and this one reads inboxes. Vayo launched Wednesday in private beta with a planned $100 million from Booking Holdings. It pulls confirmations from a traveler's email, Expedia bookings included, then watches each trip for price drops, delays and gaps. CEO Mike Fridgen says direct booking arrives within weeks and general availability in the first half of 2027. How Vayo makes money is still undecided... the rate watching has already started. In a Destination AI survey of 107 hotel company leaders, 72% use general-purpose tools like ChatGPT, Gemini and Copilot, 41% build their own, 33% use AI features from their existing hotel vendors and 16% buy from AI-first startups. Only 27% expect to spend more with hotel software providers next year, 17% expect to spend less, and 35% don't measure ROI... the vendor roadmap slide may need a new audience. Read More →
